Robert Brustein’s free adaptation of Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus, set in modern times. In Demons, Faustus has become Peter Proud, a bored Professor of Christian Morals at Harvard Divinity School, who becomes obsessed with the supernatural world. This adaptation also adds a new section to the play, complete with a new motive behind Proud’s quest for knowledge: the desire to resurrect his late wife. An American Repertory Theatre co-production.
Recorded before a live audience at the Guest Quarters Suite Hotel, Waltham in February of 1993.
